Is it possible to integrate Simplenews with the SMTP module to avoid using the cron for sending mail?

tough no idea why smtp would avoid cron... we need to disable that easy spammable "php mail" function / active lib being used

@djmystic82: I have no experience myselves, but from reading the issue list Simplenews is used with SMTP module. Cron will still be used even with SMTP module. It is only replacing the php mail() function.
@Christoph C. Cemper: could you please explain yourselves.
