More mature email send-out

First of all, I see this is going to be a great module, but I suppose it's high time to think about performance. What happens if there are many thousands of subscribers of a set and the server has to send hundreds of emails on each cron run.
I am wondering of a cron throttling function like in simplenews module. It works great and you might want considering to implement this feature.
