No error messages, just no submitted message showing up in the chat pane.

Drupal 5.2 introduced a change to the bootstrap API that breaks Chat Room. The maintainers have resisted fixing it. See issue 159854 for information.

I make strong arguments for your point. Drupal shouldn't break 3th party modules on minor release. It's disappointing for the developers and frustrating for users.

Anyway, your patch provided in http://drupal.org/node/159854#comment-281260 doesn't resolve this issue for me.
