Chat Room
This module enables chat rooms to be set up on Drupal sites. No additional software is required. Chat Room uses AJAX to update chats without page reloads. Chatrooms and chats are nodes, providing easy access with many other modules, such as Views, CCK and Organic Groups. The module features chat in pop-up windows, invitations and private chats.
Chatroom is aimed primarily at tight integration with Drupal, not at being a highly scalable IRC or XMPP style solution.
Hacking on chatroom
The DRUPAL-6--2 branch has reached BETA quality, and is faster and more feature-complete than the DRUPAL-6-1 branch. Beta-testers are welcome to help shake out bugs as we move to stable. The DRUPAL-6--1 branch is strictly for bug fixes, and will be deprecated as soon as the DRUPAL-6--2 branch is stable enough.
There is now an upgrade path from the DRUPAL-6--1 branch! Please help us test it:

Drupal 5 maintainer
I'm looking for a Drupal 5 maintainer for the module, as I don't have time to do that work. Please post an issue in the Drupal 5 queue if you are interested.
