I have a feeling this has been brought up before, in that case sorry for repeating myself.

Currently it's possible to rank a choice 2nd without giving any choice a rank of 1 (just an example, you get the point). Should that be possible? The result looks weird...

Hmmm, I think the results would only look weird on an IRV poll - or is it Borda Count too?

Well, it might be the intended behaviour (testing borda count). When choosing the last available option it shows 0% (0) which makes sense when I think about it. What does the number in parenthesis mean in this context? Is it some kind of score (for 5 choices 1st = 4, 2nd = 3, 3rd = 2 etc)?

But should it really be possible to submit this kind of votes? Is there a real use for it?

I think what we should do for this is validate that their ranking starts with 1 and doesn't have any gaps (but can still be incomplete). So you could do 1st; 1st, 2nd, 3rd; but not 2nd, 3rd or 1st, 3rd.
