I am using IMCE with FCKeditor currently on my localhost. My image size limit is huge. I when use IMCE to upload an image with no resizing the image in Drupal is noticeably poorer quality, yet the file size has not changed. I use Drupal 5

You can ajust the image quality at Image toolkit config. Admin > Site Config > Image toolkit
