Why is it necessary to create a new content type called "Newsletter", and restrict the great features of the SimpleNews module only to this content type?
My dream is that any content type could be sent to subscribers as Newsletters.
Often it is more interesting to email the node content itself (or even a View?), instead of creating the node and then creating a newsletter saying "please visit this node"...
In the Content types settings, there would be an option such as 'Act as newsletter', and all new node of that type would be emailed to subscribers.
Or it could work similarly to the Send module – which adds a link "send to a friend" at the bottom of the node – adding the link "send as newsletter".
What do you think??

underpressure commentedI'm 50/50 on this one.
I like the idea and it seems like a great idea to have this sort of flexibility.
I however, find the current system suitable since I create a newsletter when an a special photo gallery is added. Point being, a newsletter is created to announce a new collection of nodes and not a single one that could also double as a newsletter.
Hmmmm......... however I do have a term called site news that could double as a newsletter as well, which could also be used for announcements.
Just my $0.02

mags310 commentedYes yes, please! My kingdom for this feature.
What if the Newsletter vocabulary terms could be assigned to any type of content and subscribers could sign up to receive only content associated with the terms of their choice.

thepanz commented+1 for this functionality, maybe instead of using taxonomies you can choose what node-type use as a newsletter and then send it to a users-list.. in that case you can't add a "Hi USERNAME" 'cause tha node is displayed on the site.. it could be nice if you can add a "pre-node" and/or a "post-node" text to be added when sending...

yngens commentedbump. this would be nice feature.

sutharsan commentedWhy bump this issue?
yngens commentedWell, because status of the issue set to active, which means anyone can refresh and remind of its existence and actuality. If the maintainers would change to "won't fix" then I wouldn't bother. But now there is still hope, that any Drupal node could be additionally send as a newsletter during submission. This would be really great.

underpressure commentedI'm for it as an OPTION. I certainly would use it.

sutharsan commentedIf someone steps up to write this for 6.x-1.x-dev (and it not a lot of work) I will consider rolling it back onto 5.x.
sutharsan commentedOn second thought, this is already available in 6.x-1.x-dev. Any nodetype which gets assigned the newsletter taxonomy can be used as newsletter.
But still needs to be rolled back to simplenews 5.x.
zet commentedThis should work in 6.x-1.0-beta5 ?
I see that i can select "Content types to be used as newsletter." , but newsletter option don't appear on editing other node types than "Newsletter issue"

sutharsan commentedNo volunteers for backporting to 5.x. Closing the issue. Feel free to re-open of you can supply code.
