I have uploaded the internaltionalization and require modules and now am trying to add translated pages manually. I'm not getting very far i'm afraid, and was wondering if anyone might be willing to help?

Here's what I did so far:

I went to the Internationalization, multilingual system configurations. There I went to Manage Languages, where I added and enabled Portuguese.

Then i went to a node on my site, the "welcome" page. It's at http://english.craigmollins.com/en. I clicked on edit, and select "Portuguese" for the translated language, and then i add the translated text into the edit box. I choose "translated text" from the pop up menu, and I click "submit" and done.

Then a name for this translation appears when i click on "translations".

I also enabled the translations block, so that "english" and "portuguese" appear in my sidebar.

So i am excited at this point, but when i click on the "portuguese" in my sidebar, i get still get the "english" version.

So after playing around some more, i discovered if i go to "translations" again, and i "choose "select node" beside the portuguese translation, something happens. When i click the "portuguese" in my sidebar, now the new translation appears!! Hooray!!

But the bad news is that when i click the "inglese" the portuguese version also appears again.

At the end of the day after hours of experimenting, i haven't figured out how to make it work.....

Does anyone have any advice to offer??

Thanks in advance.

I recently created a step-by-step guide for using i18n. You can see it here: http://mybesinformatik.com/using-i18n-page1. Hopefully this will help you out.

incrn8: I haven't looked in depth at your tutorial yet but will do as I also got into struggle with this module.

visionforge: I just want to quickly "inject" here for you, what you experience is probably the frontpage problem, it works somewhat different then other pages. To have a multiligual frontpage you have to do it differently and there are several solutions. I suggest you simply search the subject but maybe also leave it to start with and focus on the other "normal" pages.

Thanks for all the help.....I'm still making no progress sorry to report.

I read the user manual link that you created, and I tried everything i could possibly imagine and i still get the same result. When i click on the portuguese and english links in my sidebar, i get the same language. What i want is that when i click portuguese, the portugues translation appears, and when i click english, the english version appears.

I have been able to successfully create translations, but i haven't been able to figure out how to connect these translations with the links in my sidebar.

Not sure if you changed the link to your site (from your first post), but its not working at the moment. I can, however, see you directory structure (which is not a great thing security-wise, btw), and it looks like you might be missing a few files. So maybe there is something wrong with your installation.

If you have a new link to your site, post it and I'll take another look. Maybe you can even give me a login so that I can go in and see what you have done with the translation linking. You can contact me through my contact page if you like.

I have the same problem. I have site in english and chinese. On the frontpage, only english is show (with chinese traslation in the link) even when I click chinese in the translation block on the sidebar. When viewing the node itself, the translation works fine. What I want is for the frontpage content to change lanuage as well. After searching for multilingual frontpage, the first method I tried was to add the multilingual variable site_frontpage. So I cloned the frontpage in views and added internationalizaton:lanuage, and set it to is one of zh-hant, to the filter. Also with the copy I also changed the url to indexzh. After setting the zh-hant default frontpage in site information to indexzh, no content was listed.

The second method I tried was http://drupal.org/node/256558. I followed this exactly but panel with no content was created. But this switched language on the frontpage. Its just that I was under the impression the front page content would be displayed within the new panel.

Please can anybody help?

I have figured out a very simple method for the multilingual frontpage problem. After realising the translated nodes are not promoted to frontpage, I set all these nodes to "promoted to frontpage" individually. I cloned the frontpage in views and added internationalizaton:lanuage, and set it to "is one of zh-hant", to the filter. The name of the cloned view I changed to frontpage_zh but the url remains frontpage. Without the need to add the multilingual variable site_frontpage, the frontpage changes language as I wanted.
