Prepopulate signup_forwarding_email

Can the prepopulate module be used to complete the signup_forwarding_email of the signup module? This seems straightforward except for the fact that the signup settings are contained in a fieldset and that default settings from the signup could be overriding the prepopulate data. I think this feature would be useful for the signup module for cases in which one default email address is inadequate.
