No, I got your point now.
However, Imagefield does not provide a node containing the original image (you would have to use Image module for that). Thus, a link to the original image would open the file itself.
To make things a bit more complicated, Imagecache integration has been moved into the Imagecache module. If each preset size should additionally allow to link to the original image, we have to move this issue to the Imagecache queue.
