In my dreams I see a yellow marker allowing me to highlight pieces of the node I am in and then annotate in a block of text that pops up next to the are that I marked. The floating block comes and goes when you click on the yellow. You probably have thought of this yourself, but I just wanted to mention it.

The marginalia integration would create this functionality. The integration of Marginalia is certainly not the only way this could be done, but it may be the most expedient. I'll mark as a duplicate for now and change the title of the aforementioned issue to reflect a broader range of possible solutions.
