Making sense of tutorial ... entering content for graphs

Do I understand correctly from the video tutorial that I need to create a separate piece of content for each segment of a chart? (So: for a pie chart with four "slices" there would be four pieces of content)? I'm asking because I may need a dozen or more pie charts for some statistics I want to publish ... this would be a lot of separate content creation.
