What a nice features. I got it working as expected.
However, it does not support freetagging. The freetagging textfield will take over.

How is it possible to enable freetagging for the vocab and still have this nice module together. Maybe, in addition to the dropdown list (from this module),if user can't find the right categories, he can click on the link to pop up a small window which he can submit (depend on permission) to create a term and find a parent.

That's exactly why freetagging is not supported. By nature, Hierarchical Select is not a very usable improvement. The current freetagging input doesn't allow you to create hierarchical terms either, for a related reason: what if you want to create a new tree (thus first create a parent, then the actual term)? This easily becomes a usability nightmare.

Freetagging is just another way 'people' can add term. Rather than the admin do it, your user do it for you. Hmm ... maybe I can give a special role 'people can do it as the admin ?

I agree, the current freetagging input doesn't allow you to create hierarchical terms but it looks like the cmt module can create a term under a parent with approval by others. I have got this to work though. Others like cck_taxonomy_ssu would do the job fine.

Anyhow, i like the hierarchical select. It pretty slick. Gotta think how can I still use this module in my portal.
