Where can I set the upload limit for the images in a Gallery?
In the upload description is always set: The maximum upload size is 8 MB. (is this default?)
I use Media Gallery 1.0-beta8 and Media Gallery Extra 7.x-1.x-dev

It seems, that this value can not be configured. Once we are switched to file-field, this can be configured there (currently we use the media-field).

Your 8MB settings seems to be defined in the php.ini file. Thats the default value.
