During the setup and in the module settings, I only chose and linked to facebook, linkedin, youtube, and rss. When I view my website and look at the block, it is including the icons for twitter and google plus.

I had the same problem. I applied the patch used to fix the warnings mentioned in this issue http://drupal.org/node/1468030 and this fixed the problem with displaying icons on profile pages that hadn't been filled in. Maybe it's related to your issue.

I'm seeing this as well. In my case, I've only configured Twitter and Facebook, but somehow can't get rid of RSS.

Same problem here. I've activated only facebook and Twitter, but Google, Linkedin and Youtube appear too, but without links.

I applied the patch on http://drupal.org/node/1468030 to dev. It sounds like that patch fixes this issue also. Please verify it works correctly in dev.
