Facebook-like "news feed" platform for drupal?

I was wondering if there was anything in development or that has been developed to mimic the facebook "news feed". Something like this can be very useful for community websites in a multitude of ways. For instance, I am putting together a drupal site for my music review website which also will house a community. With a "news feed" users will be able to see what other users are doing as well as new content their favorite content providers have recently submitted.

Facebook has opened user news feeds as RSS feeds, which can be pulled into your Drupal site with the Facebook Status module.

What I'm interested in is displaying Drupal events in a similar way to Facebook events. There are a few discussions about this type of functionality and as far as I know, the Log Watcher module comes closest to it.

I think your confusing drupal with facebook, maybe i didn't explain it clearly but what your describing is exactly what i was talking about. For instance, if a reviewer posts a new review, on his news feed within drupal it will display that action... if a user posts a comment it will display the action... vote, forum post, blog post etc. What would be interesting is displaying the users names within those actions which i think would be and ideal and very powerful community building tool.

I agree, it would be great functionality. What I should have said is "what I'm interested in instead of the Facebook Status module is displaying Drupal events in a similar way to Facebook events."

Check the other discussions I linked to to see if the ideas there are along the lines you're thinking (it seems to me they are) and see who else is interested.

Your best bet might be creating something with views if at all possible. We have a similar feature on GoSleepGo in our home area, but we use a custom bit of php...if that's something you might be interested in, let me know and I'll post it here.

I really like how you show events at http://www.gosleepgo.com/home. That's just the thing I've been looking for. What types of events are displayed other than adding locations and promoting them?

Currently we show locations, image uploads, blogs and projects...but we can add or remove any content type fairly easily. Comments are a bit harder to add in, so we have a different area for comment notifications.

I think that the activity module (http://drupal.org/project/activity) is what you are looking for. I'm not sure of the module's quality or features as I've never used it myself. It was made for Sony by Lullabot so I'd assume the quality is good. As well, at Image X (my employer) we built a Drupal site that has this functionality through a custom module. Please see www.fantasysportsmatrix.com for a demonstration. This was developed before the Activity module. If you end up testing both of these systems please let me know your feedback as this is an important system. It would be great to have a "best of breed" solution.
