Huh? You need the jQuery Interface module, which required the jQuery Update module, which includes jQuery 1.1.2. Drupal 5 core includes 1.04, and that hasn't changed. I think you've made a small mistake here.

In that sense, yes. the modules are interdependence. But, now I do not have to replace the included misc/jquery.js in core (18.8KB) with jQuery Update module jquery version (20.5KB). Modules stay enable, but no extra work required. It works for me, but dunno the other implication though.

I think you've made some accidental changes that you don't remember that made this possible. Marking this as won't fix. Thanks for reporting though ;)
