I understand this module doesn't work with multiple selections.

Does anyone have a recommendation for modules/methods that reduce the screen size for multiple term selections, such as a multiple column presentation? Most of my nodes have 5 vocabularies with multiple selections each and that takes up a lot of screen real estate ...

AFAIK, no such things exist to date. Perhaps in FAPI 4 (more likely 5), we'll have an entire range of form items. That will definitely pave the way for very rich, usable UIs. For now, you'll have to write your own new form elements (there are very, very few available), or pay others to write it for you.
