I can't seem to find a way to allow myself to assign a number of albums or images in each row or column, like for example having a 3x3 table matrix, 3x2, 3x9, etc...

The only way to do it is to enlarge the thumbs until they fit the way you want them to, but it isn't really a solution.

The correct way to do this is with the theming system.
