How do I offer myself different page layouts to choose from?

How do I create different page layouts to choose from, for various pages.

It seems that page.tpl.php is pretty static.

What if I wanted to have like 5 page layouts to choose from.

How do I go about having this?

The Panels module will give you that feature. You could also use the Display Suite module.
