I'm moderately familiar with WordPress and many years ago used Mambo and Joomla (around the split) to create a couple sites. I'm now working on a rather large site for a client and don't think WP is going to cut it. I need a robust store, about 150 pages of content, a retailer locator with zip code input resulting in a map of local locations, etc. Does it sound like Drupal would be my best fit? I know an ASP .NET developer who could do this instead if that's a better fit, but figure Drupal may be the best bet. The client wants to have me develop this with one of their employees who will maintain the site ongoing including updates, further development, content, etc.

If you need any further details, please let me know.

Thank you
Dan J.

Drupal powers some of the largest and most comlex websites in the world, so your project's complexity is not a concern. Store locations, etc, is all do-able using existing modules. Take a look at http://drupal.org/case-studies for examples, including summaries of the features and development process.

I would say that Drupal's modularity and community makes it easier for someone new to learn then maintain/develop than something with a lot of custom code.

Caveat: I haven't looked at Wordpress since approx v3.0

I started my venture into CMS's for corporate type websites with Wordpress and quickly managed to theme it exactly the way I wanted it to look (something that requires jumping through a few hoops in Drupal!), but I found it struggling when wanting to add more complex functionality, eg. interactive mapping, ecommerce, etc., and that is when I moved to Drupal and haven't looked back since.

Yes, somethings in Drupal do take more effort than Wordpress, but the reason for that is simply that Drupal is more extensible.

I know that the Wordpress team have been making efforts to improve it as a full blown CMS, but at the same time the Drupal community has been/is making efforts to improve Drupal's UX (user experience) and DX (developer experience). I have no idea what other CMS's are working on, but Drupal 8 is going to be something stellar.

Hope that helps
