The Drupal Association welcomes proposals from aspiring DrupalCon organizers. The association board votes and approves DrupalCon proposals. Smaller events, such as DrupalCamps are self organized and do not require approval by the association. We are requesting proposals that meet the following guidelines.

DrupalCon conference proposal guidelines

UPDATE: The next Drupal association board meeting is November 12, 2007. Please contact the association if you are interested in submitting a proposal.

It'd be great to have a DrupalCon in Ottawa. If anyone's interested in this, I can probably help out, just get in touch.

Toronto wouldn't be bad, either :)

Hello, while you are thinking about a DrupalCon, you might wish to try doing a DrupalCamp.

http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-camp

It is a good way to find collaborators in your local area who might be interested in doing a DrupalCon with you.

Good Luck!

I thought DrupalCampToronto in May was great, and quite a success. Having a full out DrupalCon in Toronto would be awesome. I'd be interested in helping organize for 2008.

It would be nice to have the DrupalCon next year in London, this years Barcelona DrupalCon really blew me away, I really can't wait till the next one. I'll ask around in the next drupal.org.uk developer's meeting if anyone has though of submitting a proposal.

Meh, too expensive.

I also say London, It is very accessible from the majority of Europe cheaply via the likes of Ryanair, Easyjet, and also via Eurostar.

In terms of a venue, if we did it after June all the unis will be closed for Summer and it would be easy to find one willing to host DrupalCon Im sure!!

There is also good value hostel, and hotel accomodation and again in the Summer units are closed = Halls for Rent!

London is defined great idea, and Id be willing to help out!

I'm sure I could get SAE Institute London to donate their facilities for some events. I'm not sure if the whole event could be hosted there, but definitely workshops on the side, I'd be willing to make a session to introduce some drupal concepts for newbies. This would be good for people that don't want to necessarily pay for the event because they just heard about Drupal, but would like to know a little more about it. I'd be willing to help out with lots of things if the event was held in London, but I don't have time/enough connections to submit a proposal. I'll ask people this Wednesday on the Drupal builder's night, if anyone is thinking of submitting one.

If there's interest, I could definitely put a proposal together. I'm an events manager who uses Drupal for event websites...ought to work ;-)

London is good if you live in london, but is very very expensive if you are in other european countries

I know the DrupalCon in Barcelona is recent but as much as I regret not having been able to attend myself I am sure everyone enjoyed the stay in spain. So my proposal for 2008/2009 is DrupalCon Madrid. Cheers. Phil

DrupalCon Madrid sounds great!

This year I was not able to go to Barcelona, but I really want to try to get there next year. But here in Norway we are to few users to handle things like this. Maybe together with Denmark and Sveden?
So the choice we have are;
Oslo, Cobenhagen, or Stockholm.
With a special invitation to our neighbours, Suomi and Iceland .

This is not a request for proposal as in we're asking people to weigh in on opinions about, "Where are nice places where we could hold a Drupalcon?" I'm sure there are lots of places that it would theoretically be nice to have a Drupalcon. :)

This is a request for proposal as in, "I have resources / contacts, and a venue, and I'm interested in working with the Drupal Association to bring a Drupalcon into my city, and here's exactly how I plan to do it, and the details of what it would entail." We need a lot more of these kinds of responses to this thread in order for Drupalcon to actually happen. :)

Amplifying Webchick's comment with a STRONG recommendation to read http://association.drupal.org/Drupal-conference-proposals-2008-2009 ....

What's needed here is entrepreneurial leadership willing to take management responsibility for a HUGE project. Drupalcon attendance is going to continue to increase, and the projection of 800 to 1,000 attendees is not at all unreasonable.

All those people need to be housed and fed. The conference venue needs not only space for the sessions, but also wi-fi on a very large scale, spaces for informal breakouts, places to sit down and check your email/work on modules/etc., common space for hallway conversations (which are VERY important), video connectivity, transit access to hotels/apartments, et cetera. It's quite a logistical challenge.

Ultimately Drupal is a do-ocracy.

And no, I'm not volunteering. :-) Not at this juncture, at least.

I think that the userbase and activity in the Netherlands has gained critical mass and am thinking of proposing the next Drupalcon in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Just a thought - we have a 4000 sq ft cultural space in the middle of Philadelphia called Basekamp (url below). We don't have anything like funds to offer, but a space where something like this could potentially be held. There's lots of other info I could pass along, if I know what you need. There is a strong need for resources like drupal in the arts community generally speaking (in particular, more so for the various collaborative groups and artist-run-spaces which comprise a growing number of overlapping artworlds - many of which have strong ties to new media and open source development). Let me know the most relevant info I can help provide...

Though we also need some people locally there 'on the ground' to help with coordinating things, communicating with the venue, handling payment, etc. Is this something you'd be willing to take on? Or maybe you and some folks from your local Drupal community?

Venues may already be prepared for this, if you do it around SXSW time.

There are a great deal of resources to be harnesses in Austin. The public transit in Austin is the best I have ever seen, Capital Metro, with fairs for $1 USD for unlimited fairs for 24 hours and buses straight from the airport to downtown. Also, Austin is accustomed to large venues and has the pre established means to temporarily house thousands of people. Downtown is also supported by public wi-fi and alcohol is sold everywhere including the majority of coffee shops. I have a few resources in Austin, though not enough to spear head this operation. We should give whurley a contact, http://www.whurley.com/ and http://www.linkedin.com/in/whurley, if interested as he does a lot of group conferences for open source and bar camp. I would be willing to help to the extent possible within my means and within a stretch of my means. ;-)

Cheers,

Austin would be a great venue. Right before SxSW would give the Drupal community a lot of exposure. We would probably get a great attendance boost as I'm sure many would come to town a little early to be part of both. Not to mention a thriving Drupal community here to help get it going. I could be involved in a planning committee although it's probably to late for 2008.

I just looked up dates and South by Southwest Interactive is March 7 - 11 while the rest of the SxSW goes on until the 15th or 16th. We could put Drupalcon on the 12-14 or so. People could stay on for Drupalcon and then get incredible live music and films in the evenings.

The deadline for this has been announced: March 5th. If you are thinking of proposing a conference, please finalize your proposal and submit it.

For folks considering a DrupalCon in Asia or South America or Africa or...please coordinate a group of people, gain some experience with a DrupalCamp and then submit a proposal (perhaps for late 2008 or any time in 2009). My impression is that the community would love to have events in more locations.
