An interesting article on Drupal performance, i stumbled upon i thought might be interesting read for the community

Drupal is an open source CMS. It it used by many big-name websites, like The Onion and the Mozilla Foundation's Get Firefox Spread Firefox campaign. However, it suffers from a few serious problems which make it extremely difficult to adapt to large, complex sites. If you're looking to deploy something like a social network using Drupal then this article is definitely worth your read. Even if you're not, these are facts any developer or admin should know about the software they might be using.

Too bad his "wordpress" blog is broken and you can't leave any comments anymore. He makes the claim you can't do big social websites... guess he missed theses sites:

These sites point out that large complex sites have no problem working with drupal. Developers just need to know what they are doing, and not just hacking around with generic-focused cms/blogging software.

I'm a Drupal fan, but I can admit that he surely has a few points regarding the third-party modules. A clean Drupal install can probably handle enormous sites.

this is old and well commented on elsewhere, although I have to agree Drupal does not scale well and requries serious tuning and massive server requirements to serve high traffic
