Date field configuration compatible with grouping by another field

Hello!

I've created a view with a list of events grouped by a category field and filtered by start date (>= 12AM Today). There are some events that may repeat frequently; I don't think they should be listed multiple times in the same category for each repeating date, but instead should be listed once with the repeat rule displayed. The problem is that I would like the event to appear the same way (once per category with the repeat rule displayed) in any category in which it appears, which doesn't seem currently possible.
