Good idea! However it is better to do it for new commits and not modify existing one.

Some people who are making patched to d.o wants to be in the list of committers. However many patches are done by multiple people so using git attribution for Drupal Core is not fair, but it will be nice to show this people somethere in the list.

The only debatable thing here that commiter is not visible at all...
OTOH if commiter does no patches then block will show a lot of patch authors and it would be a trouble to find actual commiter/maintainer
Suppose we just need a block with maintainers and top X patch-providers
