I installed this module into two Drupal sites of mine...one worked, the other isn't completely working...

I got the Ad Groups to work on one so I can assign different categories to ads and then have blocks display those groups in different areas (and have the option on how many ads to show in that block).

But the other site isn't working. I can define the different 'ad groups' but the list of 'ad groups' doesn't show up while making ads (like it does on the other site).

I swear I did both installs the same...what could I not be doing right on the one site? Could it be possible a table wasn't installed properly?

If it's any comfort I have the same problem. Not really good when the system mixes wide top banners and narrow side column banners...

It makes no difference what group I place the banners in, they pop up as if I had them all in the Standard group and/or all ad blocks showing all active ads.

Title: Ad groups not working » Possible explanation, Ad groups not working

There seems to be an explanation for this issue, and a solution, but still some strange problem within the ad module.

The ad module is supposed to produce a block for each ad group you create. I have a "top" and a "side" group and this should give you a top and a side group that you can control with the block settings in Drupal.

In my case the ad module seems to create two separate blocks for each group:
"All active Side group ads" and "ad group: Side" as well as "All active Top group ads" plus "ad group: Top".

When I use the "All active..." block it dosn't work as it should (or as I gather it should), but I get the error above where all ads can show in all blocks. When I use the "ad group:..." block everything is dandy and works as I would expect.

So I solved my problem, but still have these surplus blocks and a potential danger - if the client starts messing with the blocks that is.

We need info, how to create the ad group table in mysql
I ve the same problem
the admin/content/ad/groups shows no groups and the button to add one is missing too!

If you're getting a blank white page, review the apache log to determine the cause.

Hi All

Im receiving the same problem, the choice of Ad Group is not available when creating an advert. The default group is working, as in advertising created is appearing in the correct view. Obviously this is pretty critical to allow localised group advertising.

my versions

Drupal 5.5
AdModule 5.x-1.3.2
View 5.x-1.6

Any thoughts on this gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi all

Well dont i feel silly, but it didnt seem obvious, the reason the ad group isnt appearing when creating an Advert is due to the definition of the vocabulary in taxonomy. The ad group needs to be selected and greyed out, AND a type must be selected as well ie image! The ad group is then available, and all is well with placing the ad blocks (with ads defined in the groups) where you want.

hope it helps,

tara

This got it! Thank you, deepbluesolutions (Tara) for helping us all out. Many an frustrating hour was spent trying to find this. I REALLY appreciate your input and followup!

jeremy’s picture

When you create an advertisement, you should experience the following workflow:

1) click "Create content"
2) click "Advertisement" from the list of available node types
3) click one of the listed ad types, such as "html advertisement" or "text advertisement"
4) fill out the advertisement node form

It sounds like you're saying that step #3 isn't happening for you, so when you get to #4 you've not yet selected an ad type. Is this correct?

Just to clarify deepbluesolutions,

you check marked image under the advertisments taxonomy and it worked?

I tried that and my adds still don't show unless I activate the "All active image ads" block.

Thoughts?
Thanks for your input on this topic so far!

jeremy’s picture

TheDarkFlop, you may want to try upgrading to the recently released 5.x-1.4 version as it ads some additional sanity checks and will automatically alert you if it finds several known misconfigurations.

I am experiencing the same problem after I upgraded the drupal core to version 5.5 and ad module to 5.x-1.4 ..
At my side , ad groups and ads can be created without any problem.

However, I can not find a way to assign a group to an ad . Normally an ad group could be selected when creating a new ad...

What is going wrong really ?

Selda

jeremy’s picture

Selda: So the module was working fine for you until you upgraded? What version of Drupal did you upgrade from? What version of the ad module? How did you perform these upgrades?

Yes, you are correct, the ad groups should show up when you try to add a new advertisement node.

TheDarkFlop’s picture

Some help on the issue.

I completely uninstalled all the modules.(disable them, then check unistall tab)
Delete the catagories in catagories area.

Install the module ( version 5.x.1.4-1 , the update)

This should solve the problems.
Mine works now :)

jeremy’s picture

I'm glad that worked for you, but hopefully the next person that has this issue won't have to go to such extremes for a resolution.

Is anyone else running 5.x-1.4-1 and still having this problem?

Bedestenlioglu’s picture

I have upgraded drupal from 5.2 to 5.5 and ad module from 1.3 to 1.4 ..
After upgraded drupal to version 5.5..
1 ) I have deinstall ad module , without deleting ad groups ..
but could not get it work
2) then I removed ad groups and deinstall the module and re-install it.. Created ad groups in the new version ..
this did not help either ..

jeremy’s picture

If you go to "Admin >> Content management >> Categories", is there a Vocabulary named "Ad groups" that includes the "Advertisement" type? Have you modified this vocabulary in any way? Do any terms exist in this vocabulary?

Bedestenlioglu’s picture

yes, there is an "ad groups" in category containing the groups I have created ...

I did not create/change/delete those vocabularies manually . they must have been created by the ad module ..

jeremy’s picture

Ad does the "Ad groups" vocabulary list "advertisement" as the node type it is associated with?

How many ad types do you have enabled? Which ones? (ie, text, image, etc)

Can you include a screen shot of your node add page that is missing the taxonomy?

Do you have any contrib taxonomy modules enabled?

jeremy’s picture

Also, can you confirm the workflow that I list in #12?

Hi! I have a weird problem with this module.
I created an ad group for image ads (called 'g160'). I have a vocabulary called 'ad groups' with 'Advertisement, Image' types associated to it. I enabled only the 'ad group: g160' block.

If I create a new image ad, upload a picture, and set the ad status to 'active', the block don't show the image. I get an empty block ... (in the database i have fid=0, width=0, height=0 in ad_image table)

When I created another image ad with the status of 'pendig' and then i edited it to change it's status to active, the image magically appeared in the block. (now i have fid, width, height containing the correct values in ad_image)

Then I canged the first image's status to pending (the values in ad_image table changed) and then back to active. Wow, it worked with both images...

I spent before many hours with editing them, uploading another images, but it didn't worked. (I had 1.3.2 and 1.4.1 installed before with the same problem. Now I have Drupal 5.2 with Ads module 5.x-1.x-dev (jan.25.) installed) Then i noticed (by luck) when I unchecked the box 'publish to front page' the image was displayed correctly. Then I can see it in 'my ads'. The attached picture#1 shows what I see in my ads when i create an image ad as active. On picture#2 you can see, if i change the status, the image appears here.

I hope it'll help to somebody. The module is working good, but it makes me crazy to activate every ad what i uploaded...

I figured out the solution with the latest module version. (So I don't know the previous versions had the same problem or only I was lamer :))))

jeremy’s picture

dey, please stay on topic -- we're talking about issues with ad groups, not with whether or not image ads display. To discuss unrelated problems and solutions, please open new issues.

Bedestenlioglu’s picture

Yes, the workflow from #12 works ok ..But it does not have a step to assign an ad group to the add ... Right ?

To answer the questions from #23 , I attached the following screenshots.

1) Ad - Telefon Tarifeleri_1201633102453.png
shows the created ad types..

2) Submit image - Telefon Tarifeleri_1201638650828.png

shows the ad creation form ... In this form, I set the ad state to active however it shows always in pending state .. Why?

3 ) Telefon tarifeleri - Telefon Tarifeleri_1201638820734.png
shows the empty block for top banners on the front page .. As the state is pending, this is absolutely normal for me ..

4) Categories - Telefon Tarifeleri_1201640909859.png
shows ad groups in categories

5)Ad groups - Telefon Tarifeleri_1201641033250.png
shows the created ad groups..

I have taxonomy Access Control module 5.x-1.1 as taxonomy contr. module ..

jeremy’s picture

I believe the source of your problem is visible in your first screen shot. Notice that your "Ad groups" does not have a content type associated with it in the Type column. I'm not sure how this would happen, and I thought logic existed to automatically detect and fix this -- somehow it is not working for you. (The logic was only added in 5.x-1.4-1, be sure you fully upgraded to this release).

In any case, your solution is likely to edit the "Ad groups" vocabulary, and add "Advertisement" as the content type it applies to. Once you save your changes, you should be able to assign your ads to ad groups.

Bedestenlioglu’s picture

Many thanks. It works now ...

I'm having the exact same problem that Bedestenlioglu was having: everything used to work fine, but since upgrading to the newest version of the ad module, I can't assign ads to groups any longer.

When I look at the vocabularies listed in admin/content/taxonomy, it lists the Ad Groups vocabulary, but with no content type associated with it. However, when I click on Edit Vocabulary, Advertisement is not among the listed content types, so I can't add it! It has a content type called "ad group" at the very top of the list, but no Advertisement type. If I look in admin/content/types, Advertisement is there, but not when I try to edit the Ad Groups vocabulary.

No, I have not made any taxonomy changes or installed any new modules or anything like that. The only things that have changed between everything working and not working are upgrading from Drupal 5.6 to 5.7 and upgrading the ad module to 5.x-1.4-1. From this and the other people who've posted above, it sounds like there may be a serious bug in v.5.x-1.4-1 of the ad module...

Any ideas? This is a live site, and the ad I'm trying to add is a paid ad -- if it doesn't appear soon, the client is going to be Very Unhappy.

mdowsett’s picture

did you try going back in and edit the ad you just posted?

I noticed last week there was no ad groups listed when I created the ad but when I went back in to approve it, the ad groups were listed.

spidersilk’s picture

Title: Possible explanation, Ad groups not working » Ad groups not showing up when creating or editing ads

Yes, I did. Multiple times. Still no ad groups.

I was eventually able to get the ad to show up by going into the database with phpMyAdmin and manually adding an entry to the term_node table, but that's not really a good long-term solution. This is definitely something that broke with the upgrade to Drupal 5.7 and/or Advertisement 5.x-1.4-1.

(BTW, just edited the title of this issue to be more specific to what most of the posts here are talking about.)

jeremy’s picture

This appears to be the same bug as this issue, but I'm unable to duplicate.

jeremy’s picture

Status: Active » Postponed (maintainer needs more info)

I just ran into a similar bug. Actually, this may be the same bug being reported above, and I simply wasn't understanding it.

If you assign a second vocabulary to your advertisements, and then you assign a term from one of the secondary vocabulary, suddenly all the ads in your default group will "disappear". Is this the same problem being reported in this issue, or a different problem? Is everyone above using the default ad group, and have they assigned a second vocabulary to their ads?

jeremy’s picture

Looks like another similar bug report here.

mdowsett’s picture

no, I'm not assigning vocab terms to ads....just setting their ad group.

jeff h’s picture

I had the same problem and fixed it by going in to the ad group vocab and assigning to a random irrelevant content type, and saving my changes. Then the groups appear on my ad edit/add forms again. The good thing is, the fix sticks even when I go back in to the vocab and remove the irrelevant content type.

pramudya81’s picture

Mine is strange too.

First the grouping was fine. I could manage creating a new group and choose to display it on whatever block.
Until I upgraded to drupal 5.7 (was 5.6). Suddenly the grouping was not working anymore.

When I upgraded to ad-5.x-1.5.tar.gz. Now the grouping was fine again.
I tried to get back to ad-5.x-1.4-1.tar.gz but still the grouping was not working.

I don't know the causes nor the reasons but now it is working fine on drupal 5.7 and ad-5.x-1.5.tar.gz

Regards

Title: Ad groups not showing up when creating or editing ads » can't delete ad from Ad group Drup 6

When attempting to move an ad from one ad group to another, I got the same ad in both groups. There seems to be no way to delete an ad from one group without deleting the ad from ALL groups...or just deleting the ad entirely which I don't want to do. what am I missing?
