I basically would want the users only able to choose from two roles that would be allowed to edit their posts.. So far I only managed to hide the output completely - but not yet to "filter" the roles I never want to be able to edit - and then even have this "other users of my (1) role my edit"-default setting..
Hmm.
Changing the permission options to checkboxes would be also nice..

I hope that this is actually the right place to post such "wishful thinkings"..?

I do not understand what you are looking for. I have patched nodeperm (http://drupal.org/node/40215) to allow permissions to be Set, Denied or retained. Does that do what you are wanted?
