As I'm sure most of you have heard, Google has recently announced it's new social networking API, OpenSocial. This is by no means an attempt by Google to create another social networking site. Instead this is an API, (application programming interface) that is designed to integrate many of the existing social networks (Linked In, Orkut, Myspace, etc). This is great for developers because they can essentially create an application once that can easily be deployed, and communicate across many platforms which in turn frees up time to enhance their applications. By utilizing Drupal.org's handy search, I found that there is already a project in the works to support OpenSocial. http://drupal.org/project/opensocial

I understand that Drupal is not solely used for social networking, but for many users it is an integral part of Drupal's functionality. This in itself is what personally drew me to Drupal for my projects. Now my question to the community is how do you think this is going to effect development for Drupal in the future? What doors can this open and close for future releases?

http://drupal.org/project/opensocial seems to be broken. I could not find it in the search result either.

Yes, there is nothing there anymore. I also looked a couple of days ago for the contribution in the CVS and did not find it.
