When creating a new Date object, text on the Field settings page, by the Cache dates checkbox reads:

Date objects can be created and cached as date fields are loaded rather than when they are displayed to improve performance.

This doesn't make sense, nor does it allow the user to make an informed decision about checking the box or not. Improved performance sounds good, but is there any potential downside?
