I would like to offer my users a Tumblr like blog. The sweet thing about Tumblr is, that it is so easy to post video, pictures and links with the bookmarklet.
Is there any way I can get the same functionality into Drupal? I have been looking at Gelato CMS, but can't get it to work. Is there any way this could be intigrated into Drupal?
Thanx, Niels

Some info + some doubts
Hello,
Despite this post is quite old, I am also looking for the same thing.
Answering to your questions: my approach would (and will) be to create custom content types with CCK module: one content type for video with a single field with the embedded video field; another one for images with only one image field, another for quotes with a text field previously themed...
That could easily be achieved by drupal +cck (+ a nice theme), and I think Drupal7 could be a good option because it integrates some of these features and it's supposed to be more user friendly (haven't tried it yet) but there are other pretty good things about Tumblr which I don't know how can I replicate:
1) Followers: Tumblr has a list of users who can follow your posts and will be notified in their own timeline.
2) See what people do with your content: If someone retweets, comments or shares one of your "nodes" , tumblr would display a list of actions.
Can anyone help me to achieve these two steps? I have seen there's Tumblr API (http://drupal.org/project/tumblr) which seems to solve #1 but it seems to be abandoned and I don't find any way to download it and use it.
Thank you very much
Looking for Tumblr Fans to Review Our Module
Hi,
Hopefully this may be of some interest to you :)
We do a lot of work with folks who are "technically challenged" :) We've built Drupal websites for these folks (users) which work fine for a limited audience. The users understand that they can reach a broader audience via social networking sites. However, the concept of cross-posting or posting a link back to their primary Drupal website is not something they have the patience, and/or skills to do.
We've built a module that we are trying to donate to the Drupal community, we call it "tumblr_connect". When a user posts on their Drupal website, our module automatically posts a summary (aka teaser) on to Tumblr.com. Our module automatically handles updates and deletes also. When you update a post on Drupal, the corresponding Tumblr post is automatically updated. To summarize, our module sends posts from a Drupal site to Tumblr. The Tumblr summary posts contain the standard "read more" link. However, when a reader clicks on "read more" they are directed to the primary Drupal website and full length post.
We also include a "Tumblr Followers" block, that allows you to display your Tumblr followers on your Drupal website.
If you think our module might be useful, please encourage folks in the Drupal community to "review it". http://drupal.org/node/954770 . I've seen other folks as for reviews in the Developers forum (http://drupal.org/forum/4) make a pitch for reviewers, so hopefully this pitch doesn't violate any of the forum guidelines. :)
Thank you
Jason
Hello, By reading the
Hello,
By reading the description of this module it seems to be more or less what I wanted to do. Unfortunately I don't understand how can I get it and/or what are you asking for. Could you please provide more details?
Thank you
Please add a review comment
Hi,
Thank you so much for the reply :)
The folks who maintain the Drupal.org website (this site) and the community module facility are inundated with requests and proposals for new modules. Therefore, someone like your self needs to express interest in our "tumblr_connect" module. If you notify the folks at http://drupal.org/node/954770 that you are interested in our module, that helps move the acceptance process.
To summarize, please go to http://drupal.org/node/954770 . Add a comment at that location. Tell folks that you would find our module useful.
You don't need to be a programmer to simply add to the conversation :) One of the biggest factors in accepting (or rejecting ) a module project is : Does the module serve a unique purpose?
We did that search. We found a lot of great modules (like activity stream) that allow you to import posts from Tumblr to your Drupal website. However, we didn't find a module that allows a end user to automatically post from Drupal to Tumblr.
In addition, if you are Tumblr user you know that the Tumblr website occasionally has to go down for maintenance. Last week Tumblr was down for almost a day. Our module accounts for that scenario. I posted 2 blog entries on our Drupal website. Our module reported that it couldn't connect to Tumblr right now but it would attempt later. The next day Tumblr went back online. Our module recognized that Tumblr was back online, grabbed the 2 blog posts and posted them on Tumblr, All done automatically, no user intervention.
Again, don't want to violate the forum guidelines by making this post sound like an advertisement :) However, just wanted to point our some of the features our modules provides and why you might take a moment and encourage the folks at http://drupal.org/node/954770 to accept our application :)
Thank you again :)
Jason
Done! I'm willing to use it!
Done! I'm willing to use it!
Thank You
Hi,
Thank you so much. Hopefully that will move the process along. We have a Drupal 7 version but have been waiting to see if we can get our Drupal 6 version processed first.
Again, thank you so much for your help.
Does this module create posts on Tumblr
Hi Jason,
I also maintain a couple websites for technically challenged folks. I want these folks to be able to write one single post but publish it simultaneously on multiple websites. I need to do that all from the server side.
The folks I work with can't handle any type of browser based software (that work with things like the blogger api).
So my question is, if I install your module, will my clients be able to simultaneously post on both their Drupal site and Tumblr blog. That is, without any need to install client browser based software?
Please let me know :)
Yes
Hi Gallant2,
Yes that is exactly what our "Tumblr Connect" module does.
You install our module. Use the configuration dialog to set your existing Tumblr user id, password and blog url. Set which content types (e.g. Article, blog posts) you want Tumblr Connect to use. Click save settings.
You simply use your Drupal website to create content. Our Tumblr Connect module automatically posts a duplicated of your content on to Tumblr. By default, our module adds a "Read More" link on Tumblr that directs the public back to your Drupal website.
Are you using Drupal 6 or 7? We have a module compatible with each version. However, we are trying to host our module on Drupal.org. The folks who manage Drupal.org have a ton of applications to review. Therefore, the folks on Drupal.org can't review both a Drupal 6 and a Drupal 7 version of the same module. We chose the Drupal 7 version.
Therefore, if you get a chance to review our module here http://drupal.org/node/954770 , please make sure you add a comment. If you are satisfied with our module please mark your comment as "reviewed & tested by the community".
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Jason
