Hi sorry to open yet another "can't get Views to override" issue but for the life of me, I cannot figure this out and have read all the documentation. Here are some steps that might help give some insight where I am going wrong.

  1. Cloned the view:taxonomy_term
  2. Renamed it to: video_taxonomy_term
  3. Changed a few things with the new view for the page display:
    • - Path settings (put in gibberish here)
    • - For the Content: Has taxonomy term ID (with depth), narrowed it down and selected my Vocabulary called "Video Category" and saved this View.
    • - Changed up some of the fields for good measure.
  4. Navigated to /admin/structure/taxonomy/video_category/display and checked the box for "Taxonomy term page" under Use custom display settings for the following view modes and saved
  5. Now I go to /admin/structure/taxonomy/video_category/display/full and choose my View / Display under Term Page Display >> Associated content display and I also set the Term display to "hidden"
  6. I navigate to a term page that I know has content associated with it, I still see the default term pages and if I hover over the contextual edit link and edit the View, it simply brings me to /admin/structure/views/view/taxonomy_term/edit

I checked out these threads but they did not give me much insight.

#1772104: The term page is not overridden
#1561628: How to use Taxonomy Display to override a taxonomy with views?

... as well as the troubleshooting page. Any insight into his would be appreciated, thanks.

eek, I ended up using Taxonomy Views Integrator and it just worked right out of the box. I still don't know why I could not get this module to work as they seem very similar. The only thing I can think of is there was some kind of interference from Display Suite but I doubt it. Closing this one.

I also had a few eek moments. I had very similar issues. Tried just about everything. I just could not get taxonomy_display to work.

I followed in the steps of @highrockmedia and got what I wanted in a matter of minutes.
