I know this is a noob question, but I am just not finding an answer. I am trying to enable a logged in users ability to set their own password. But under the 'Manage display' only 'History' is available even though several fields I want are listed (including password) under 'Manage fields'. What am I missing that will get fields under 'Manage fields' to appear under 'Manage display' so they will display? Currently users can only see the History field.

This is because those are "special" fields, those can't be added in a easy way. They just get injected somewhere during rendering. This will change in drupal8. But for drupal 7 there isn't much I can do to help you.
