The reason is probably something that causing infinite loop/recursion in code under certain conditions.

Sorry to hear this dr.user. Thanks for your report.
We're going to need more details and preferably a reproducable test case in order to get to the bottom of this.
Off the top of my head I'm not aware of any loops potentially spinning out of control. And wouldn't the same occur in a Linux-flavoured env?

I have probably the same issue on Debian.
Apache eats all the memory and swap after updating to 1.5 or 1.6 :(
It's strange but everything is ok with another site.

PS Maybe the bug is the same as https://drupal.org/node/2136053
