Is there a store locator solution for Geolocation Field?

I found the Google Store Locator module which uses geofield to create the functionality that I want.

Question : can one build a similar store locator using the Geolocation Field instead? Is it possible? Or is it better to switch to the geofield realm for that? Below is a quote lifted from that issue
