Drupal has many breadcrumb modules.
Taxonomy breadcrumbs is in a bad state, and improving it would be a duplication of effort.

So why not deprecate the module and point people to Path Breadcrumbs?
That's what Custom Breadcrumbs is doing (which was originally developed in tandem with this module, and at one point even superseeded it).

Path Breadcrumbs does not have a Drupal 9 release.

However, as a new maintainer of this train wreck, I'll be happy to deprecated it if somebody can point out a better alternative.
