Title: Install stops at MariaDB » The uptest=query method in pdnsd breaks install and upgrades because this method is unreliable with Google public DNS servers
Component: Database Server » Code
Priority: Normal » Critical
Status: Active » Fixed

I guess it was caused by the hotfix applied to the DNS cache server default settings. While it fixed issues on servers with outgoing ping blocked, it seems it breaks things for the rest of the world, randomly, depending on the Google DNS servers response. Reverted.

thanks. btw. I've been using Cloudflare for DNS and making Google's 8.8.8.8 primary, local ISP secondary and tertiary, as Cloudflare doesn't masks the DNS IP for security reasons, maybe I am missing something regarding Cloudflare/Google DNS.

You should allow BOA to configure DNS caching and resolver on your system. Otherwise various bad things may happen. This can't be Cloudflare related, though.
