As evidenced by http://drupal.org/node/67895 it's clear no one uses or cares about poll.module. ;) For 1.5 years, every time you edit a poll, you lose all the votes. Either #67895 is critical and we shouldn't release (again) without such a horrible flaw, or we should just admit that poll is unloved and doesn't belong in core.
Furthermore, poll is the regression test for FAPI -- poll slows down a lot of new core development, every time HEAD is open for changes.
And let's not get started with all the limitations in poll's functionality (no ranked-choice voting, no body to explain the poll, etc, etc).
poll.module is a relic of a bygone era in Drupal's history. It doesn't belong in core anymore. It should be removed before we ship 6.0.
(If this get's marked "Won't fix", then #67895 is critical and an RC blocker...)
Thanks,
-Derek

litwol CreditAttribution: litwol commentedi wholeheartedly support this idea. +1. i cant believe drupal 5 had such flawed module for over a year now and no one did anything about it. i think it just shows that this module is unwanted. to my belief if people want to create polls then they would use advanced poll module.
i vote for this module to be removed from core.

dwwJust noticed the following on http://drupal.org/project/advpoll
So, it looks like the "but what about a migration path?" question is already solved....

moshe weitzman CreditAttribution: moshe weitzman commented+1 from me too. the fact that we have had a major data loss bug for 1.5 years indicates to me that hardly anyone cares about it. most people have moved over to adv poll or a votingapi module.

rickvug CreditAttribution: rickvug commented+1 - Poll module has suffered for very long. Hopefully dropping it will inspire a concerted effort around a "best of breed" simple poll module. It would be nice to have the core poll module adopted and improved, offering users a choice in their upgrade path (any volunteers to adopt?).
I haven't used Advanced Poll (it looks great!) but asking users to migrate to something with many features that they've never seen, and likely don't need, could be confusing. See http://drupal.org/node/162146 for one such issue. There's a place for different polling modules, all with their own niche (and hopefully little outright overlap in their target users).
That's my 2 cents.
