We need a button or link on the home page where people - regardless if they are registered on the website - can sign up for the newsletter by language. Either connect directly to the forumsocialmundial site (http://www.forumsocialmundial.org.br/cadastro.php?cd_language=1), or send an importable message to Thiago (verify best way with him).

mlncn commentedTwo questions on that:
format the current lists are in and are we taking over all of that?
This is the big part of the question. Setting up CiviCRM just for
WSF2008.net isn't too difficult, but it is overkill. Setting it up for all
of World Social Forums needs is more involved but strongly recommended.

We can put a form that accesses these lists directly from WSF2008.net if someone can-- otherwise we can just provide link, which is suboptimal since the language of the list subscription must be chosen independetly of the language of the site, and changing the language of the site directs one to the forumsocialmundial.org.br home page rather than staying on the signup form.

mlncn commentedThe conclusion on the web team list as I understand it was to create a form that will e-mail a person who will add it to the main list.
We will do that but I'm putting this as "needs more info" because this would be best handled in a more comprehensive manner– integrating with the mailing database at forumsocialmundial.org.br or creating a new contact relationship management database to incorporate and replace the existing one.

jnardi commentedThe email form is a temporary solution - but very urgent. We need people to be able to sign on asap. And we need to work on a CRM, which is in the plan...
So please go ahead immediately (suggestion: move the Support wsf page to the top menu and replace the button with Newsletter page (where we should also put the newsletter archive)

mlncn commentedThis has been done. On all pages!
Long sordid history of other things looked at here:
