write-in choice?

When you edit or create a poll, open the "Poll settings" fieldset, then check the box for "Allow users to cast a write-in vote". You can set this as a default if you edit the advpoll-binary or advpoll-ranking content types. Also review the access control page because only roles with the "add write-ins" permission can do so.

"Allow users to cast a write-in vote" is nothing in the area!!

In that case you must not have "administer polls" access.

I am having the same problem, I cannot find anything about "write in" votes. I have given all the permissions I can give - there is nothing about write-ins.

Write-in seems to only be available in the Dev Snapshot version.

That makes sense. It was becoming clear to me that the files in the release were too old to have the things being talked about.
