I get the below error when I try to add a rate and comment.

Rating field is required.

If I make it optional for the content type it will not register the vote but does post the comment.

The votes were actually being cast correctly but not displaying. I reproduced this problem in beta2 and it should be fixed in the latest CVS and beta3 (which will come out shortly).
