Since Drupal.org's forums have become a wasteland (sorry to everyone who helps), maybe we should have some forums (using advforum) specifically for asking/getting answers to questions about lessons or the dojo.
Opinions?
Start within a Git clone of the project using the version control instructions.
Or, if you do not have SSH keys set up on git.drupalcode.org:

Natalie@drupal.ru commentedI love adforum. Even having subscription, quote or other things that are built-in in any decent forum engine would go a long way towards usability. I know this is a touchy subject and some folks on Drupal.org feel that forums are fine as it is, but they are not, neither in looks nor in functionality.

add1sun commentedI'm not a fan of forums on dd.com. We have forums already on d.o and we have g.d.o for group communications. I'd prefer to work with Moshe and g.d.o to come up with a solution than do our own. Right now, I'm -1 but open to discussion.

niklp commentedForums are nice in theory, but in reality they're mostly annoying and generally balls. What would we use forums for, that's a requirement specific to DD? Show me a use case, dammit! :p
I feel that it is a good idea that we have an area for Q&A, but in reality, this could be accomplished by using comments. I feel that comments on the actual lesson page would make these nodes slightly less usable, so I propose (perhaps) a content type that could be associated (linked) with the lesson pages, specifically for this purpose. This decentralises the content away from forums and focuses it on the lesson, which IMO is more useful, and ties in with my general theory that everything should be in one place, just like my backgammon set, the constituent components of which are inherently nomadic. Come back, I have cookies!

Natalie@drupal.ru commentedI disagree. Forums can be a useful tool for any website that tries to build a community. Unlike, say, blog posts, forums are the place primarily aimed at discussion and over the years have developed tools to make it more convenient. What could they be used for? Anything. Asking for help, suggestions to improve the website, you name it.

niklp commentedWell I think we've got most of that stuff elsewhere, namely d.o. I wouldn't necessarily say we were trying to "build a community" either - we already have one, it's Drupal. We're just offering an offshoot of that for training purposes. Asking for help would be specific to a lesson, which is covered in what I suggested above. Or it would be a suggestion for a lesson, which would be covered by the contact form (specific category), or suggestion for the website, which would be covered by the same.
Other use cases? I don't like the idea anyway really as a whole. I think forums are very messy, and my personal mantra for DD is, "one lesson, one page", with possible exceptions (see above). I'm pleased with that, I think I might make a new post out of it...

brenda003I disagree on the use of forums, as well. There can be commenting on lessons or something along that lines, or perhaps the Dojo could get a forum on drupal.org. The whole separation of the Drupal community thing is just not a good thing, IMO.

robloachAlthough forums can be great for community discussions, Drupal Dojo communications already exist on http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-dojo... -1

matt v. commentedAdd me as another -1 voter. I think there's too much fragmentation as it is.
If you could figure out a way to integrate the existing posts from g.d.o somehow, then you might get my vote.
robloachCan we aggregate comments?
senpai commentedRob Loach, I don't think so. O.G. groups are nothing more than nodes, which have child nodes, which then have comments. As yet, I don't think we can aggregate g.d.o comments into our dojo.com site without pulling the entire thread, at which point the forum interaction could simply be moved to g.d.o in the first place.
I'm a -1 on drupaldojo.com forums.

[14:08] i propose this one is set to no/closed
[14:08] -1 str8 away
[14:08] !tally start
[14:08] -1
[14:08] -1
[14:08] str8 away again for tally :)
[14:08] -1
[14:09] !tally end
[14:09] I'm going to have to say that even though I commented against it, a single open room for all to comment in might nt be a bad idea
[14:09] comments on lesson nodes should be enough?
[14:09] same thing really anyway
[14:09] But threaded forums on every topic imaginable is definitely NOT a good idea
[14:09] NikLP++
[14:09] yeah, stick with the issue here on voting
[14:09] weeeell.
[14:09] and we can open new issues for modifications we feel are more betterer
[14:10] although potentially there may be scope for Q&A not related to specific lessons, so where would that go?
[14:10] ok, then I'm -1
[14:10] NikLP, we can make that a new issue
[14:10] i feel like forums is overkill
[14:10] ok. this wine is jolly tasty :)
[14:10] good idea
[14:10] * tally725 (n=tallybot@c-67-169-161-36.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) has joined #drupal-dojo
[14:10] ok, so agreement to close the issue
[14:10] aye
[14:10] since NikLP is right that each leson can have it's own series of threaded comments
[14:10] hold one moment please
[14:10] * tally725 has quit (Remote closed the connection)
[14:10] since they're all nodes anyway

Senpai: I'm going to have to say that even though I commented against it, a single open room for all to comment in might not be a bad idea This was regarded as off-topic - let's start another issue for that
