How then shall we go about getting teachers to sign up for the role of 'teacher'?
We're going to be offering teachers a special "create a lesson plan" node on this new site. It will have a field for "propose your topic" and another one for "What day(s) can you teach this class?" What we need to do next is figure out a way to solicit potential teachers to sign up as a teacher so they can have access to create these special nodes, but we can't automate the process using logintoboggan, or all users, including spam bots, could do it.
Ideas anyone?

gusaus commentedIdeally we'd be able to create an easy way for those who want to teach one off lessons, but also mentor workshops, sprints, and projects. Take that a bit further, they could select which area(s)/tracks in which they'd like to specialize. Also might be nice to track the contributions (i.e. lessons taught, projects mentored) inso to implement some sort of reward system. Seems like this and the following have a bit of crossover and should be taken a look at as a whole:

The following may provide some inspiration:
Knight News Challenge Garage provides a good example of a mentoring group for some of these business/marketing-centric efforts with are often overlooked, yet essential, in forwarding the Drupal project.
