OK, I give up. Where is the mythical check box that allows me to offer a newsletter subscription on the user registration page? I've searched the admin section of my site and I can't find anything that allows me to put a "subscribe to this newsletter" widget on the user account creation page.

I've read this post...

...which suggests that the dev version of the module has this capability. I haven't applied the patch yet as the post was dated 2007-09-25 and my version of simplenews is more recent. Besides, the attached patch is not to add the feature I want, it's for something else.

Anyway, I just need to know where I'm going wrong. FYI: the version of simplenews I'm using has this at the top...

http://drupal.org/node/178485#comment-683990 is the correct patch.
This patch does contain the required functionality.
The patch should still apply to the current 5.x-1.x-dev.
Please use issue 178485 for further discussion on this subject.
