Sorry if it's a newbie question..
I have just installed Drupal 4.6.0. I have installed image module, and it works fine, but now I want to organize images into galleries. I can create and edit image galleries on admin/image, but I can't find the way to set any image into a gallery.
I think I'm missing something, but I don't know what it is.
Thanks in advance :-)

permissions & terms within gallery
make sure to remember to set up your permissions under "access control" to allow your user to create and edit images.
if image.module is enabled correctly, you should see the ability to create content > image, and also should see "Image Galleries" under your "admin > categories" section. you can add terms there for each of your galleries.
then, just go to create content, create an image, and make sure to pull down the galleries menu in the options at the top of the node creation form and get that image into one of the gallery terms. then clicking on yoururl.org/image should show a list of all your galleries, with icons of the first image in them, and a list of how many contents are in each.
:) good luck.... trust me, it's much easier being a newbie with this new 4.6.0 image.module than some previous ones! (i personally was pulling my hair out a year ago trying to work out the ImageMagick problems. ;) cheers to the coders who included the GDK toolkit with this version.

Permissions ok
Thanks, Gidget
I'm logged in as admin, with all permissions.
I can see the admin>image galleries option, and the galleries I've created at myurl/image
I see that image galleries is some kind of special vocabulary (vid 1), but the problem is on the node creation form, where I can't assign the image to a gallery, I can only assign it to a term of any vocabulary but vid 1. :-(
Maybe I'm doing something wrong...
Image galleries dont show on create/upload image
I also have the same problem, on both my pubished site and test site at home. Images upload with Image.module and image_upload, but there are no galleries shown to post into. This also applies to the image_upload module.
Drupal vs. 4.6.0
Apache image libraries: GD
cannot put image nodes into galleries. me too.
I am having the same problem. I cannot put images into galleries. The image upload works fine, the thumbnail creation too, but the special image galery taxonomy does not show up in the image node create or edit screen. I spent a day trying to figure out how the image nodes are coded into the database. Way over my head. The best I can tell is that there is some comibination of Drupal settings that causes the image node taxonomy to not appear where it should. I can't figure out what it is though. I got the image module to work correctly on only one site; on the others that I tried to install it I got this same error.
The best advice I have been able to find in the image gallery bug report page was to reinstall it and cross your fingers. I tried that and it did not work.
Just hunch...
By far not expert myself...
Is the taxonomy module enabled in administer>modules ?

Try this...
On my site, this works under 4.6.2 and the released image module.
Go to Administer->Categories, choose the 'edit vocabularies' link next to Image Galleries.
Make sure that 'image' is checked under types, and that nothing else is. Make sure it's set to 'Required' and 'Multiple Select'.
Then, make sure you have at least one term in the vocabulary; the list you see under Administer->categories should match the list under Administer->Image Galleries.
Optional: Then go back to your other vocabularies that are not appropriate for images, and make sure they are unselected for types.
Finally: Now that you've done all this, find an image; edit the image, and look for the vocabulary terms list box; it should then list all of your Image Galleries.

Image Galleries: It works....Partially
Having experienced the same problem, I have followed these instructions and problem the image gallery within the content form now works correctly. The image gallery is now listed correctly with images in Main Index (?q=indexpage/image), if index module is installed, but the Image Gallery (node ?q=image) in Navigation Menu shows "There are 0 images in this gallery"
This suggests tthat there is a conflict between the image and taxonomy modules.
I have reproduced the problem. Using a clean install of Drupal, and then adding the image module. Everything works as it should. Add the taxonomy module and the problem re-appears - no Image Gallery to select when creating image content.

It is likely that there is
It is likely that there is simply no clean way for the image gallery to do its thing without the taxonomy module present; it relies heavily upon taxonomy to work. Adding taxonomy afterward probably changes the information that the image gallery set up when it was activated.

Solution ?
So is the correct procedures to install Taxonomy module first, and then the image module ?.
The problem cannot be corrected by removing both modules, and then installing in the correct sequence - db. table entries are not removed and are then available to either module when re-installed. I guess the solution would be to remove any taxonomy and image items from the appropriate tables.

Navigation list
Don't forget to go to administer->menus and enable image galleries - otherwise they won't show up in Navigation.

I've seen posts about this and no resolution.
does anyone know how to fix the problem of getting an image into a gallery?
http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal/image
I have set up 2 galleries.
I want to post thumbnail photos into each but when I 'create content|image', there's no dropdown to select the gallery.
the taxonomy module is enabled and working.
I don't see 'image galleries' in categories. is it supposed to be there?
any ideas appreciated.

I've submitted a bug report
I have the same exact problem as y'all
http://drupal.org/node/43104
PLEASE GO TO REPLY #2

I found out the problem with the galleries. It looks like a serious omission of documentation although it very well could be a bug.
gallery Solution
Hi,
I have also had this problem. Now overcomed it.
Please follow these instruction
1)Administer ->categories->add vocabulary - Add an image gallery(type should be image)
2)As the next step add terms to this gallery .The term names should be the name of galleries which you want to be displayed in the dropdown menu while adding an image to gallery.
3)Go to createcontent->image and add an image
Wishing this will be helpful for you :-)
galleries
your solution does work. thank you.
I have noticed, however, that under Administer-->Image Galleries
none of my Image Galleries are listed there.
I think they should, right?

You omitted 2 important steps
(1) You need to create a vocabulary called "Image Galleries".
(2) You need to leave it empty.
Only then will you're image galleries drop down appear.
leave it empty??
all the previous comments have said that it is required to have a vocabulary named "Image Galleries",
and that you add terms to that vocabulary to - create? link to? - your image galleries. (though how that
can work when one can create an image gallery directly, i don't know)
now you are saying that we have to leave that vocabulary empty??? can you explain, then, how an
image gets into a gallery? and from what source the "image galleries drop down" is getting its
values?
does anyone know how this is actually supposed to work? and could describe it in step-by-step terms?
yes, it sounds bizarre but i had to leave it empty
only then would the images appear in the gallery
Delete variable
I had the same problem with image galleries and was scratching my head and tearing my hair out for ages. This module needs some serious rescripting.
What I did which seems to work is:
Then it gradually builds up the tables again (except for the image_nav_vocabulary variable - maybe this is where the problem lies) and started adding my galleries to Taxonomy when I added them from the 'Image Galleries' admin page and vice versa.
Doesn't display my galleries properly if I add a new image vocabulary though. - I found a way around drupal's node permissions shortcoming by creating a new menu which just had links to member content which members have to activate from their account settings. I wanted public galleries and members galleries which contained no links to each other.
has anyone got anywhere with
has anyone got anywhere with this? I am having the same problems? My taxonomy and image galleries are out of sync. And i tried deleting the mentioned rows from the DB, and still same problem. Posted this issue http://drupal.org/node/68921 about it. but was wondering whether any users had progressed...
Image Galleries "Missing" - Fix?
I had the same problem while fooling around with the latest 4.7 and Image Module on a new test install.
Fortunately, I'm now rigorously Backing UP the files and database before each installation and configuration of a new module.
Anyway, I had the same problem when I initially installed the Image Module. There were NO tabs or references to an Image Gallery. Taxonomy had been enabled per the default 4.72 install, but I had never used it, nor created any terms.
I restored my website files and database to the point before the Image Module Installation - Then I actually enabled and used the taxonomy module to categorize a few nodes.
When I installed the Image Module this time, all the correct Gallery Tabs were there - and it seems everything is working fine!!
Good to hear you got it to
Good to hear you got it to work. I am still having problems with the node type "images" associated with any taxonomy item (ie. the image galleries categories). I actually used the Taxonomy module before the image module install, so quite confused if something else is missing. Currently running 4.7.2 and the latest releases.
Peace,
Ivan
Right now, when you go to
Right now, when you go to www.site.com/image, it shows all my terms for the Image Gallery category but only the most current image per each term. Does anyone know how to make it so all images appear on the default image page?
I saw this code for the latest image:
l(image_display($gallery->latest, 'thumbnail'), 'image/tid/'.$gallery->tid, array(), NULL, NULL, FALSE, TRUE)
also, does anyone know how to include a title attribute in the anchor tag for the terms of the Image Gallery category?
I think it is contained in this line:
l($gallery->name, 'image/tid/'.$gallery->tid)
or
l(image_display($gallery->latest, 'thumbnail'), 'image/tid/'.$gallery->tid, array(), NULL, NULL, FALSE, TRUE) . check_markup($gallery->description)
thanks
How do you get Image Gallery to work with Category module
Any one got any ideas how to create an image gallery with the category module installed . I am having the same issues many have had with no apparent way to insert an image into a gallery
Has anyone sorted this problem out? help needed!
I have Drupal 4.7, image module, taxonomy module and image gallery module installed and enabled correctly.
I have created a vocabulary 'Image galleries' and added three terms for the three galleries that I would like to have on my site.
Under administer - image galleries - I have added three galleries with the same names as the above terms.
I have gone to create content - image - upload an image - selected the corect gallery on the drop down menu, this has created an image, with a thumbnail fine, it even has the title of the correct image gallery. However in my image gallery page, although the three galleries are listed, all galleries say ' There are 0 images in this gallery'.
Does anyone know how to get the images into the correct place?
Does no-one know the answer to this one?
I can upload an image put it is not showing in the image gallery as explained in my previous post.
Please help.
Image Gallery and Category
I spent the whole weekend trying to figure out a way around this with countless variations including a fresh Install of Drupal, MySql tables and the various modules - no joy )-:
I also can't find any mention of the Gallery and Image module on the category module web site.
Hope this gets resolved soon. It seems like many folk are running into similar issues.
I'm pretty sure that the category.module caused this problem...
...in the first place, at least for me. The taxonomy and book wrapper modules are both broken and I think that messing with that module is a horrible mistake right now. It seems to add little new functionality anyway, so I've decided I'm better off without it. Your mileage may vary. Right now I'm mostly just trying to avoid having to build a whole new site...
I just figured this out! w00t.
Here's the answer. I executed this php code by creating a new page, pasting it in, picking my PHP format, and previewing. I stole this code right out of the bottom end of the image gallery module. I have no idea why it's not firing on its own:
Note that it looks for a vocabulary with a module specified, which is why I didn't just create a vocabulary and set a variable "image_gallery_nav_vocabulary" to the vid of the appropriate vocabulary. I'd still have had to tweak it, AFAIK. You can see why I did what I did by looking at the last function in image_gallery.module.
So all you have to do is remove any current vocabulary called "Image Galleries" and go through the above. I don't know if this works with categories module enabled, but I don't see why it wouldn't since this is going through the appropriate functions. Assuming they work right in the taxonomy emulation module, the functions ought to do the job. That might not be a safe assumption, though; a lot of stuff in category.module is pretty broken, and I'm pretty sure that's how I broke this part of my site to begin with. I've since ditched category.module and gone back to books and taxonomies.
Image Gallery works fine with the script
I run Drupal5 with category and I had the same problem.
After executing the script drinkypoo published now it works fine.
DrinkyPoo: Absolutely Brilliant!
I had the same issue and this fixed it. I know I was playing with acidfree and added and removed it and re-added the image module. I don't know if that somehow broke it. But this fixed it.
One word of caution. It does remove those galleries listed, or at least it did in my case. You'll need to re-add your galleries and images, which for me was not a big deal.
Thanks!
oops .. spoke too soon
It appears to correct the issue, my images are at node/xx with a image gallery selected. But it you go to the gallery .. there are no images there. Somehow the link between the two is not correct. Back to the drawing board. Bummer
I use the gallery module. Acid Free is good too.
I use the Gallery Module which requires the installation of a great third party application. Also, Acid free makes a very nice Drupal integrated gallery.
Rich
the problem with acidfree
The major problem with acidfree is that few modules integrate with it. I use image so I can use img_attach which makes node creation much easier (although img_attach has its own annoyances of course.) I have used the flash gallery module, though, which uses the image module (and image gallery module I think?) and it's very nice.
I'm having the same trouble.
I'm having the same trouble. However, on another instance of drupal (4.7.x) I'm running on bluehost, no problem. I'm wondering if the php versions are different enough to cause trouble. Here's the specs for the bluehost site where it's working: PHP version 4.4.4, MySQL version 4.1.21-standard-log, Linux Kernel version 2.6.19-1_3.BHsmp, Apache version 1.3.37 (Unix).
Also, anyone know if there are other special dependencies that aren't included with the image mod?
Nope
I have just hit this problem with one of two sites on the exact same server, same versions of Drupal (4.7.6) and other modules. My main site works fine, the new one completely refused to create terms when I created Image Galleries. So I don't think it can be server config.
This wasted a day and was driving me nuts, so I am extremely grateful for drinkypoo's http://drupal.org/node/21314#comment-155992 solution upthread, previewing the PHP snippet given. This worked perfectly for me, and it is now working properly.

Image Galleries bug
Here is another approach to what drinkypoo was doing. I think it does the same thing. I'm using Drupal 5.x and it worked for me:
1) Do not create any image galleries. Instead, go to Administer->Categories and create a vocabulary for the image gallery, check the "Image" type box, and add any terms that you want under that list.
2) Go into the database and edit the record you just created in the vocabulary table. Change the module field in the table to "image_gallery" instead of "taxonomy"
Then when you add an image, you can assign them to the terms you created, but Drupal will treat them as images.
