Hello,
for smaller sites a quota functionality is totally neccessary to ensure that users don't overload the server. Is this feature in the scope of this project? Also, do you plan to port it to the next Drupal version?

Overload can easily be lowered by uploading original images that are as small as possible. Then PHP does not have much work with their re-sizing to thumbnails.

About porting to D6 - planning to do that before going to Drupalcon in Boston - so, just a few days!
