Issue Summary
I've read several discussions around the need for standalone case number identifiers. But, unless you memorize which projects go with which number, the case numbers are not very informative.
A better solution would be to have an optional 'project code' field so the admin can customize the case prefixes for that project.
Every company I have ever worked for has assigned prefixes to every account or project (usually a 3 letter prefix), and having case numbers like IBM-345 or HP-345 would a lot more informative than 1200-345.
If left blank, it could auto increment in the same way it currently does.

Good idea, I put it on the features list

The purely numerical prefixes have just been removed, for among other reasons their un-informative nature. I'm setting this issue to postponed as I'm not opposed to a more useful kind of prefix like you describe, but it's not on the immediate agenda.
