When using for example pathauto to create aliases like /2005/title this all function well with i18n, also when you change the language with the flag under the node.
However, when using the flagmenublock it references to the page 'en/2005/title' and i18n will continue to show the node in the same language and only the user interface changes. Solution would be to link to the node itself and not the alias of that node.

Maybe yo should put the right language at the beginning of the aliases ?
