The drupalimage plugin will need to be rewritten to support tinymce 3.0 (the tinymce API has been totally overhauled).

If there is concern about compatibility issues in a point release this could happen in a different branch.

That won't happen until the TinyMCE Drupal module will support TinyMCE 3.x as well.
