base64 request cropped version of jpeg

I would like to have the gallery to display cropped versions of each jpeg. My initial thought was to add a term on the base64 call. Something like '-crop' so when it creates the link (ex. ) it would add -crop to the call. You could then have all your cropped versions of each image with -crop in their name located within the same folder. Would this be possible?
