Title:Port Forum Access 5.x-1.9 to Drupal 6» BETA1 for D6

After some testing with the 6.x-1.x-dev version, we now have a BETA version of Forum Access for Drupal 6 (see the front page).

Since it's a BETA version, you should not install it on a production site, but please do test it and provide feedback.

IF it works for you, let us know by adding a note to THIS issue here.
We need a lot of positive feedback to build sufficient confidence, so please do keep it coming!

IF YOU FIND A BUG, please check the issues queue, and if it hasn't been reported yet, then OPEN A NEW ISSUE!
Do NOT add bug reports to this issue here.

This will be a big help for managing the beta test. Thank you!

Note: There has been very little feedback to this date — if you don't report your issues and successes, we can't make this fly...

Hey man!

It's working good for me. Thanks a lot. Once again though, I do not have anything particularly intensive to test it with.

Best Regards,

I've been working with the Beta since it came out. Excellent module with no bugs identified yet.

Yeah, I have been using it since it came out and it is STILL working perfectly. Thanks a lot!

Running on 6 with ACL Beta 1. All roses! No issues so far. Install was as described and integration to the admin section was seamless. I'd say you guys deserve to get a little confident at this stage.

Fantastic module.

Just put this in D6.8 / ACL beta3 / advance forum / production site with no real traffic yet. Seems to work real nice, I really like it..great mod !
The only thing I found was the New Topic button available all the time, [permission or not] due to the node access setting that had to be set to anonymous for an OpenForum to work. Did i say that all right?

webpotato - January 28, 2009 - 20:29

Hi,

So, okay, I enabled the ACL module first. Then just after enabling the module there's the note on the modules page to rewrite all the permissions, which I did, not without a little trepidation. Then after enabling the forum_access module I see the same message there and again I do it-- again. But my issue is, when I go to administer my forums I see a cryptic message about losing all my forum posts if I rewrite the permissions (which I already did!).

I guess I'm lucky I had no forum posts yet. Seems like, if I have this right, there should be lots of bells and whistles that go off BEFORE someone rewrites the permissions and loses all their forum posts. At least in the README but also as a caution when enabling the module.

salvis - January 28, 2009 - 23:59

Please start a new issue and cut&paste the exact message that you're referring to.

This collection thread is only for positive feedback (which is important to get an idea of what's happening out there) — it breaks down very quickly if people start posting all sorts of problems and requests in this thread.

Version:6.x-1.x-dev» 6.x-1.0-beta2

I'm excited to post this new version — this is the level of functionality that we needed to reach for a first D6 release. Please help to ensure that it also has the required quality!

Thanks to all who have provided feedback. As far as I can see, this version is feature-complete for 6.x-1.0, so please give it a good work-out and report your findings, so we can move to release!

IF it works for you, let us know by adding a note to THIS issue here.

IF YOU FIND A BUG, please check the issues queue, and if it hasn't been reported yet, then OPEN A NEW ISSUE!

You must update to the latest ACL BETA4 before installing Forum Access BETA2!

An easy one to start with - the download link is broken!

@tmchild:

An easy one to start with - the download link is broken!

You mean the download links at the top of this issue? Unfortunately, I can't edit the original post...

@nbz: thanks for the quick sanity check, that's very helpful!

You mean the download links at the top of this issue? Unfortunately, I can't edit the original post...

Actually it was the link to http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/forum_access-6.x-1.0-beta2.tar.gz on the Forum Access project page that was giving a 404 error for a while last night.

Anyway - I've installed beta2 and so far so good.

I've previously used Taxonomy Access Control but Forum Access is much easier to admin - thanks!

Hi,

I am making use of this module and it really does work great. I only have one problem with it though. If you have a restricted forum, people that don't have access to that forum can see the topics in "New forum topics" and "Active forum topics". An illigal user can then select that private post and comment on it as if it was a public post.

Is there any way of changing that or am I doing something wrong?

Kind Regards,
Davin Hansen

Title:BETA2 for D6- [Forum Access]» BETA3 for D6- [Forum Access]
Version:6.x-1.0-beta2» 6.x-1.0-beta3

I decided to delay the release and add the missing pieces (#310254-15: Control posting rights for comments/replies in D5): This version finally delivers comment moderation as well as advanced node moderation (publish, sticky, close comments, etc.). You no longer need to give 'administer nodes' and 'administer comments' permissions for these features. Expand the Permissions information fieldset to see how things are supposed to work.

This is significant new functionality — please test it thoroughly!

Yes Sir! this is working well so far--will report anything I can find... D6.10, ACL beta4, AdvanceForum 6.10, ForumAccess beta3.. Might be approaching time for more readme.txt, just for duuumees like me. I noticed it creates a new role for moderator.
And you fixed my Post Topic Button !! very nice--icing on the cake. And some new stuff to check out too.. I have it running on a live site, buckeyelake.org with very little traffic at this point makes it a good testing ground.
It is neat giving anonymous users access to a few forums just to get people started on being involved. This mod will help build communities while having total control.
Thank You-- Thank You-- Thank You

BENNYSOFT - March 19, 2009 - 09:10

Beta 3 works w/o any problems.

This is the long awaited feature rich forum access module. Thank you very much for this excellent work!

#26

Frank Steiner - March 19, 2009 - 09:50

One new thing that I don't like is that you need the "administer forums" AND the view permission for every forum. This has changed from earlier versions and will cause a lot of work to set right permissions for existing forums :-(

#27

Frank Steiner - March 19, 2009 - 10:32

wrong thread...

#28

DiJae - March 19, 2009 - 15:58

Thought of trying it out in D6 but after an hour it still does not work. I installed the version beta3 of forum_acccess and beta4 of acl. I created a group 'xyz' which should moderate comments only for forum 'xyz'. This group got the permission to post, view, edit and delete in this forum. And users of this group can post new topics, reply to topics, edit topics but they can't edit or delete comments - only their own comments. What am I doing wrong?

#29

nbz - March 19, 2009 - 17:13

Have you rebuilt the permissions?

For me, this seems to work very well and finally I can allow others to moderate comments - people who I do not want to see the secret fora and stuff (if I ever get the need to do that, that is.). Thanks!

EDIT - actually, just noticed that I cannot change the permissions and stuff for forums I am not able to moderate? the "edit-forum" link is missing from /admin/content/forum for the forums that I did not specify view permissions for?

I would assume that the "administer forums" access permission would be enough to administer the forum settings? Is this an expected result, or something not expected?

#30

salvis - March 19, 2009 - 22:40

@DiJae: Please open a new issue.

@Frank Steiner, @nbz: Let's discuss under #407766: Restrict 'administer forums' to 'View'able forums...

@ALL: This thread is reserved for success feedback — please respect this!

Hi
Just installed beta3 version on a new site (A number of forums but very few posts in the forums -so probably not that much of a challenge for the module ). Installation was problem free and its doing what it said it would - so just thought I'd say thanks and add to your positive feedback. :-)

#34

ssmarni - May 20, 2009 - 01:20

i installed this yesterday. it looks like it works for what i want it to do.

i installed the module and enabled it. i did not see more instructions so i didn't know what else to do. right now i just went and did testing to see if i could access the forums as a non-authenticated user and i could not. that is what i wanted! when i re-enabled it i could access the forums again.

the only error i notice is that sometimes it tells me i have to rebuild the content access permissions. i am sent to a page to click a button to do this which seems minor.

#35

dbeall - May 20, 2009 - 01:44

yep.. rebuild permissions and then goto content management > forums .. open or edit a forum and you will see the new settings.. it is neat !!

#36

ssmarni - May 22, 2009 - 16:53

- after it was installed but no changes were made, i thought it was working. when a user clicks on the title of the forum they get a no access error. but if they click directly on the link to the post they can view it.
- i just found the dialogue in admin for the forum that looks like where i have to set the settings.
- i went into the admin settings. for a container dialogues do not match up with the check boxes. i have included a screen shot to show this. for a forum the dialogues seem to line up correctly.

i'll post back after i test again.

@ssmarni: Please check BETA4 and open a new issue if the problem persists. It's impossible to handle to handle more than one subject in a single thread. I'm trying to gather positive feedback here and deal with problems in separate threads that we can close after the issues are fixed.

Hi, module is what i need it, but...
When I install by default forum link work fine, I meen whan i click i have redirection to log in. First step is great. Secend when I add more roles, link isn`t work, it acting like i didn`t install module.
Also option >View this container< for anonymous user if I make selection they can see all posts but if I isn`t selection container is hide:(
Any idea what shall to do? I will like if possiblle anonymous user can see topic but can`t read.
Why they have >View grant<? This option make useless your module for me or I can not figure out how to use it.

I have sugestion: >>>view only link<<< and >>>view all post, comment<<< - this is big difference.
And: Hide forum and show forum.

I do not understand why >>view=show all<< or >>no view=hide all<<?!
Thanks:)

I have been using this module for a long time now. No problems to report with Beta 4. (had forgotten to report back earlier, but the bump in tracker brought it back to view).

I will say it again, for the people waiting to run this, all is fine, works nice!
Get more people involved in your forum discussions by allowing some anonymous uses to have a say!
After they get involved, they will become a registered user in time. It has helped get people in the local community interested in being a member on the buckeye lake site. This module is a community builder!
Thanks again....
